Our Beginnings
Friends of the Earth Lavender
was born through the passion and love of my husband’s landscape
contracting business, ‘Yiannis Landscaping.’ During his past 36 years as
a landscape contractor, Yiannis had always dreamed of growing organic
lavender. Rolling hills striped with lavender basked in the late
afternoon sun is reminiscent
of his hometown village of Sparta, Greece during his youth. In March
2002, his long-awaited dream came to fruition; he took the plunge and
planted 6,000 lavender plants. The sight of the “first bloom”, thousands
of plants producing their magnificent lavender-colored blossoms, and was
awe-inspiring. Even though we could hardly bear the thought of
harvesting our own fields of lavender, we knew so many beneficial and
wonderful products could be made by utilizing our own flowers. We have
come to learn a lot about lavender, its colorful splendor, aroma as well
as appreciate its healing properties of the mind, body and soul.
